Police praise a resident of Anambra for documenting the kidnapping in Akwa.

In support of police investigations, the Anambra State Police Command has praised the courage of an Awka resident who put his safety in danger to record what appeared to be an abduction in progress.

Three armed guys are seen driving a stainless-colored Toyota Highlander SUV without a license plate in the now-viral footage. In the early hours of Friday, June 27, the suspects are shown in the video shooting randomly before kidnapping an unnamed victim.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, said in a statement issued on Saturday, June 28, that the command is using the footage for investigative purposes. According to him, CP Ikioye Orutugu, the Commissioner of Police, commended the bravery of the person who recorded the crime and mentioned that it is much aiding the current rescue operations.

Orutugu described the action as a potent example of community involvement in crime-fighting and stated, "This is aiding the rescue operations and potentially helping to save the kidnapped victim."

According to the authorities, the footage might be used to find the culprits, gather information, and make sure the guilty are held accountable.

The command also said that the body of Mr. Chido Ozor, a kidnap victim who was taken from his piggery farm in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area, on June 19, had been recovered. According to Ikenga, on June 23, police discovered Ozor's death close to his farm after they had been pursuing the suspects.

Police have asked the public to continue assisting security efforts by providing reliable information that may result in arrests and stop more crimes while investigations are still underway.
