On Sunday, June 29, firemen in Idaho, US, were ambushed by gunmen while battling a fire, killing at least two individuals, according to the county sheriff.
Sheriff Robert Norris first told reporters that the fire was still burning on the Kootenai County mountainside as police and the shooter or shooters were exchanging firearms.
We have two de@ths currently. The number of our casualties is unknown. Civilians are still descending from that mountain. At a press conference, he declared, "As we speak, we are actively taking sniper fire."
"As soon as somebody has a clear shot, I encourage them to take that shot to neutralize the threat," he added, adding that the gunman had "no evidence of wanting to surrender."

According to him, authorities thought the two individuals killed were firefighters.
Pat Riley, the local fire chief, had already expressed his heartbreak at the attack.
Despite the fact that the fire was still blazing, he told local TV station KHQ that no evacuations had been ordered.
Residents were instructed to remain indoors until the gunfight was over by Norris and other officials.
"We do believe that the suspect started the fire," Norris stated during a press briefing. It was a complete ambush. There was no chance for these firefighters.

According to Norris, a third injured firefighter was "fighting for his life" following surgery but was now stable.
Later on, it was discovered that the suspect had been killed.
The suspect and officers engaged with gunfire, however it was unclear whether the shooter was hit and killed or if he killed himself.
Norris stated that police were still trying to identify the individual, but he did not disclose any information on the suspect or the reason behind the shooting.
