Five accused r3pists are arrested by Akwa Ibom police when they search a shrine and find coffins containing women's sanitary pads, photographs, and other fetish goods.

Five individuals connected to a recent home invasion, armed robbery, and rape at a guest house in Abak were taken into custody by Akwa Ibom State Police Command operations after they stormed a criminal hideaway that was thought to be a shrine.

On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, DSP Timfon John, the command spokeswoman, revealed this in a statement.

The arrests, according to the PPRO, came after a covert investigation that was sparked by a formal report that was received on June 26, 2025, describing the incident in which armed persons robbed a guy and sexually assaulted his female guest.

On July 30, 2025, at 11:10 PM, agents raided a hideout on the orders of Commissioner of Police CP Baba Mohammed Azare, and they took Richard Edet Udo, Hope Unibong Anitie, Joseph Ibongidi, Christian Joseph Johnny, and Joseph Joseph into custody.

During the operation, two coffins containing women's sanitary pads, pictures, and other fetish objects were discovered inside a suspected shrine.

Investigations are being conducted to capture the remaining gang members, according to the PPRO.

The command is still dedicated to maintaining public safety and justice, she continued.

Operatives of the Command began an investigation after receiving a stern order from CP Baba Mohammed Azare, the Commissioner of Police. Around 11:10 p.m. on July 30, 2025, detectives invaded the thieves' hideout. The statement partially said, "Operators found disturbing items from what looked like a shrine, including two coffins filled with women's sanitary pads, pictures of people, and other fetish items."
