Five children are discovered chained in a dungeon coated with feces, leading to the arrest of a Pennsylvania couple.

The parents of five children who were found imprisoned in a "dungeon" filled with excrement inside a Pennsylvania home are now being charged.

James Russell Kahl, 65, and Carly Kahl, 41, were taken into custody by state troopers on Wednesday, September 3, after their five children were found in a house in Redstone Township with no beds, boarded-up windows, fleas, bedroom walls coated with feces, and little food or clothing, the troopers informed KDKA.

Authorities further stated that the children, who ranged in age from 5 to 14, were discovered in the unsettling circumstances.

It has been reported that the parents who kept their kids in such appalling conditions had a live feed of the room so they could keep an eye on them.

Police were seen on camera escorting a cross-eyed Carly Kahl and a surprised James Kahl out of the house.

Trooper Ally Wilson told the site, "The only word I can use to describe what we saw and what those children went through is sickening."

On August 8, Pennsylvania State Police were initially dispatched to the residence to assist Fayette County Children and Youth Services in addressing a report regarding the children. After police executed a search order on the residence, the couple was taken into custody this week, according to police details.

The children were allegedly trapped inside the hellhole for a portion of the day and all night by their father, James Kahl, who locked them in the dirty bedroom that served as a "dungeon."

According to a criminal complaint that WPXI was able to obtain, James informed troopers and a CYS case worker that he would "not be removing the locks from the bedroom door for any reason."

The children were virtually trapped in the house of horrors, according to the police, who also discovered cameras linked to the father's room and three deadbolt locks on the exterior of the door without a handle.

According to the outlet, police also discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia, a stun gun, and an imitation firearm inside the house.

According to the youngsters interviewed by the authorities, James Kahl neglected his children and used marijuana all day. According to the criminal complaint, he also recently forced their mother to zap one of the children with the stun pistol as a form of discipline.

"From what I've observed, the process will be drawn out. Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele told WTAE, "I can't imagine, I mean, I can't imagine living in a household like what we saw," though he won't speak to the kids directly.

"That a family member was prepared to come forward and inform us of this makes us quite delighted. In addition to our Belle Vernon state police, who carried on with this investigation long after the children were taken away in order to make the arrest they made today, we are quite pleased with our Children and Youth Services, who took these children away," Aubele stated.

"We need people to come forward and think of these children; law enforcement cannot be in every home and every minute of every day," he stated.
