A Nigerian man has gone viral on social media after allegedly denying his wife on stage just to kiss Grammy-winning singer Tems during her performance at the Afro Punk Festival in Brazil over the weekend.
In a now-trending video, Tems could be seen interacting with a male fan during her performance when she paused and politely told him she didn’t want to disrespect his wife by serenading him.
“I know your wife is here, and I need to respect her,” Tems told the man.
However, to the shock of many in the crowd, the man immediately denied being married despite his alleged wife reportedly standing right behind him. Moments later, he leaned forward and kissed Tems’ hand, sending the audience into loud screams and excitement.
The dramatic exchange quickly went viral across social media platforms, with fans and netizens debating the boundaries between artists and their fans during live performances.
Many online users have also drawn comparisons between the incident and a similar controversy involving Omah Lay earlier in February 2024, when the “Holy Ghost” crooner invited a female fan who attended the show with her boyfriend on stage during his performance of “Bend You.”
Videos from that concert sparked widespread outrage after the pair’s silhouettes were captured in intimate poses, reportedly leading to the couple’s breakup shortly after.
The Tems incident has reignited discussions about how far Afrobeats stars should go when interacting with fans during concerts, especially when it involves people in relationships.
