Mohbad’s Family Stops Widow Wunmi From Using ‘Aloba’ Surname Pending DNA Test

The family of late Nigerian singer Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba) has officially barred his widow, Omowunmi, from using their surname until the result of the ongoing DNA test confirms the paternity of their son, Liam.

In a statement released by the family head, Omolayo Aloba, and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family emphasized that Wunmi is not permitted to use the “Aloba” name during the paternity dispute.

The Aloba family also insisted that no legal or traditional marriage existed between the late singer and Wunmi, claiming that the required Yoruba customary marriage rites, including payment of bride price, were never completed.

This new development adds another twist to the long-running controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023. The singer passed away after receiving an injection from an auxiliary nurse, leading to massive public outrage, the exhumation of his body, and an inconclusive autopsy result released in May 2025.

The family has now appointed Oladayo Ogungbe as their sole legal representative for matters involving the DNA case and the administration of Mohbad’s estate. They also confirmed that legal expert Wahab Shittu will continue handling all issues related to the ongoing death investigation.

According to the statement, both Wunmi and her son will be added to Mohbad’s estate administration only if the DNA test proves that Liam is his biological child.
