Rapper Max B Released After 16 Years in Prison — “They Gave Me 75, But I’m Back”

American rapper Max B has finally regained his freedom after spending 16 years behind bars.

The Harlem-born artist, whose real name is Charley Wingate, was arrested in 2007 and later convicted in 2009 for his alleged role in a botched robbery that resulted in a man’s death. Although Max B was not physically present at the scene, he was sentenced to 75 years in prison.

According to Daily Mail, his legal team appealed the decision, and in 2016, his sentence was reduced to 20 years after the case was revisited.

Throughout his incarceration, Max B maintained his innocence and repeatedly expressed confidence that he would one day regain his freedom. Earlier this year, he hinted that his release was close  and on Sunday, he officially walked out of prison a free man.

Despite being behind bars, Max B never stopped creating music. He continued to record verses over the phone, releasing projects such as Vigilante Season. He also maintained a strong friendship with fellow rapper French Montana, who was among the first to celebrate his return.

French Montana shared clips of their emotional reunion, expressing joy that Max B had finally made it home after years of waiting.

Now back in the spotlight, Max B has already made a public appearance at an NFL game, where he looked confident and full of energy. When asked how he felt about being free, he replied with a signature smile:

“They gave me 75, but I’m back.”

Max B’s release marks the beginning of a new chapter for the influential rapper, whose “Wave” movement and melodic rap style inspired a generation of artists, including French Montana, Wiz Khalifa, and A$AP Mob.
