The eldest daughter of late gospel singer Omije Ojumi has paid a heartfelt tribute to her mother, describing her as a strong and virtuous woman who remained devoted to her children despite the challenges she faced in her marriage.
Speaking during the service of songs held in her mother’s honour on Wednesday, her daughter, Jomiloju, reflected on Ojumi’s unwavering commitment to her family, noting that she consistently stood by her children even in difficult times.
According to her, the late singer was driven by a deep desire to raise disciplined, responsible and morally upright children, determined that they would not repeat what she believed were her own mistakes in marriage.
“She was always there for us, even when our father wasn’t,” Jomiloju said during her tribute.
“Her focus was to make sure we turned out responsible and did better than she did in her marital journey.”
Jomiloju further revealed that her mother placed strong emphasis on education, often making personal sacrifices to ensure her children attended the best schools she could afford, believing it was the key to securing their future.
In an emotional moment, she also made a public promise to honour her mother’s wishes by taking full responsibility for her younger brother.
“I promised my mum that I will take care of my younger brother,” she said.
“He will become the prayer warrior and responsible son she wanted him to be.”
The tribute moved many attendees to tears, as Jomiloju’s words painted a picture of a devoted mother whose greatest legacy remains her children.
