Ruben Amorim Appears Unfazed After Manchester United Sacking

Ruben Amorim appeared in high spirits as he was seen publicly for the first time since being dismissed as Manchester United manager.

The Portuguese coach stepped out of his Cheshire mansion on Monday afternoon alongside his wife, Maria Joao Diogo, both wearing broad smiles—just hours after Amorim was officially sacked with immediate effect at Carrington.

His dismissal followed a turbulent few days at the club, coming after a public rant aimed at United’s hierarchy in the aftermath of Sunday’s draw against Leeds. According to reports, however, the decision to part ways with the 40-year-old had already been made by United’s top officials two days before the trip to Elland Road.

Amorim was reportedly entitled to £12 million in compensation if he was relieved of his duties before November 1, though the exact details of his severance package remain unclear at this stage.

Insiders revealed that Amorim was seen leaving the training ground on Monday morning laughing and joking with members of his departing coaching staff, showing little sign of distress following the club’s decision.

The final verdict to sack him came after a meeting with Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, which took place following last Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against bottom-placed Wolves. That match saw Amorim revert to his favoured system featuring three central defenders.

Sources claim Amorim was informed during discussions that United’s squad—strengthened by £250 million worth of summer signings—was considered strong enough to be trusted and capable of playing a more attacking brand of football.

In the aftermath of Amorim’s exit, former United midfielder and current Under-18s coach Darren Fletcher has been appointed caretaker manager ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Burnley. Members of the club’s leadership group were also informed of the decision shortly after Amorim received the news.
