Nkubi: “I Became an Actor Because People Refused to Employ Me” – Nigerian Actor Opens Up

Nigerian actor and content creator, Victor Udochukwu Nwaogu, popularly known as Nkubi, has revealed that discrimination over his physique played a major role in his decision to pursue a career in acting.

The movie star made this disclosure while speaking on the stigma faced by little people in a recent episode of the One On One Podcast, which featured his wife.

“I Was Rejected for Jobs Because of My Size” – Nkubi

Nkubi explained that he only fully understood his reality as a little person after finishing secondary school and facing repeated job rejections.

“As a child you barely understand your reality but you knew you were different from every regular person.
When the reality of being a little person first hit me was when I finished secondary school and I couldn’t secure minor jobs like others,” he said.

According to the actor, employers often turned him down because of his physical appearance, which eventually pushed him towards entertainment.

Nkubi Says His Daughter Is Now Facing Online Stigma

The actor also revealed that his daughter is already facing online bullying, with internet trolls making derogatory comments about her because of her size.

Nkubi said although he and his wife were aware of the possibility of having a child with dwarfism, seeing their child experience discrimination still hurts.

He noted that they were emotionally prepared for it, but the reality of constant trolling is painful.

Nkubi’s wife added that despite being mentally prepared for stigma, the online bullying directed at their daughter is heartbreaking.

She also revealed that a doctor once advised her to get pregnant for another man to avoid giving birth to a child with dwarfism, but she firmly refused.

According to her, she chose love and commitment over medical advice and stands proudly by her family.
