Two Passengers Killed As Police Escorts Attached To VIP Allegedly Open Fire On Tricycle After Rider Tried To Overtake Convoy In Delta.

  Two persons were on Tuesday evening, July 12, allegedly shot dead by policemen attached to a VIP in Effurun, Uvwie LGA of Delta State.

  The policemen who were in a convoy was said to have opened fire after a tricyclist scratched one of their cars while trying to overtake them. 

  It was gathered that the two passengers in the tricycle, popularly known as keke, died on the spot, while the tricyclist escaped with gunshot injury. 

  The deceased have been identified as Charles Okpako, 29, and Apepe, a new dad.

According to Okpako’s brother, “My brother daed along with his friend in a keke. They were shot by police escort attached to a VIP in Ogbolokposo while they were returning home from work. 

The police shot them because the keke rider scratched one of the cars in their convoy.  Charles and his friend, Apepe, a man whose wife put to bed barely six months ago, died on the spot while the keke rider survived with a bullet injury in his shoulder. The VIP, according to eyewitnesses, is a popular pastor of a big church in Warri.” 

Confirming the incident to newsmen, spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe said, “I can’t confirm the entire report. However, yes, we got the report that a yet-to-be-identified convoy around the community had an argument with the Keke, and one of the security operatives shot at the keke killing two persons. Investigation is on to unravel the identity of the people who did this dastardly act.”
