An ex-offender tries to flee the court grounds, causing chaos.

On Tuesday, June 24, a dramatic incident occurred in an Ilorin Area Court when Segun Samuel, an ex-offender, tried to flee the court grounds.

ASP Samuel Mayowa, the prosecuting attorney who witnessed the event, told NAN that the ex-offender deftly took the chains off his leg with a broomstick before heading to the restroom and scaling the court gate.

"This court has four separate criminal cases against him. He was given a one-year prison sentence in one of the cases that was heard on Monday. He was given a six-month community service sentence in the second criminal case, and the third case was scheduled to be tried today before he pulled that prank.

"Fortunately, the prison warder and the police officers on the court grounds jumped in and went after him," he stated.

After a thorough search and with the help of the community, the ex-offender was found in a dilapidated structure in the Oke-Suna Area of Ilorin, Mayowa continued.

He claimed that once the Correctional Service officer was called, the ex-offender was captured and returned to custody.
