Afenifere leaders and governors in the southwest demand unity and economic growth.

Despite political disputes, South West governors and leaders of Afenifere, a socio-cultural organization for the Yoruba people, have often emphasized the value of unity.

They issued the request during the Southwest stakeholders' forum, which was held in Akure on Wednesday and had as its topic "Strengthening democracy through dialogue; Assessing progress, charting the future."

On behalf of his deputy, Noimot Salako Oyedele, Governor Dapo Abiodun stated that Southwest governors must revive their heritage and set an example in terms of responsibility, inclusivity, and public involvement.

True progress can be made by the government listening to the people's desires rather than by speaking to them, he added, adding that the summit offers a chance to institutionalize regular communication between the public and the government.

Abiodun stated, "From the visionary legacies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo to our collective advancements in education, technology, and enterprise, the South-West region must always lead Nigeria's path towards modern governance as we cradle on progressive politics and intellectual innovation."

Let's collaborate as a federal and state government, as well as citizens and institutions, to create a Southwest that remains a beacon of innovation and success for our country.

"Dialogue is essential to democracy, so let's resolve at this summit to strengthen cooperation, face obstacles as a group, and create a future anchored on harmony, development, and progress."

In addition to praising President Bola Tinubu for his audacious reforms in several important areas and his Ondo State counterpart, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for hosting them, the governor claimed that it had put the nation back on track for sustained progress.

In addition, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State and Chairman of the Southwest Governors, stated that the time had come for the region to regain its reputation as a center of innovation, education, and good government.

"The historic gathering was an affirmation of the existing synergy and collaboration between different institutions," Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the host, said in his remarks, implying that democracy thrives when leaders and citizens interact and engage constructively.

He pointed out that "our democracy" still faces difficulties.

Chief Reuben Fasoranti, the program's organizer and Afenifere leader, asked the governors to work together for regional development regardless of their party affiliations. He was represented by Femi Okurounmu, the former secretary general of Afenifere.

He urged traditional leaders, politicians, and interested parties to renew their dedication to the welfare philosophy that characterizes Yoruba politics.

Among the dignitaries at the event were the following: Suraju Adekunbi, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, HRH Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Alaafin of Oyo, HIM, Oba Abimbola Owoade, Omolola Adubiaro, former Governor of Ondo, Olusegun Mimiko, former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Segun Adesegun, former Speaker of Ogun State, HRH Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, and Oba Abimbola Owoade.
