Attacks on churches and mosques by Boko Haram: Information Minister

According to Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, the administration of President Bola Tinubu is striving to ensure the safety of Nigerians in general as well as Christians and Muslims.

Idris claimed that rumors that attacks are limited to the North were untrue and that Boko Haram militants target both churches and mosques.

In a CNN The Exchange interview, Idris emphasized that Nigeria is a religiously tolerant country.

We do have security concerns in Nigeria, and I would like to repeat that we do not deny this or call for denial in that regard," he stated.

However, what we're saying is that we must convince Nigerians and the rest of the world that this government is genuinely trying to protect the lives of all people, including Muslims and Christians coexisting peacefully.

It is untrue to claim that only a specific area is being targeted. We are aware that some of these Boko Haram fanatics have attacked Christians in their churches and Muslims in mosques.

And for that reason, we need the world to be aware that this problem does exist, and that it is a religious issue that will cause division rather than benefit our nation.

It is completely untrue that these criminal elements and radicals want the world to believe that there is a conflict between Muslims and Christians.

"The right to practice one's religion, whether one is Christian or Muslim, is guaranteed by the Constitution, and both Christians and Muslims coexist peacefully and cooperatively in our government's hierarchy."
