Relatives of popular Nollywood actress Regina Daniels from the Ogwashi-Uku community in Delta State have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, demanding that he accept the return of the bride price paid for their marriage or face a traditional dissolution of the union.
The warning was contained in an open letter signed by Favour Awele Obi on behalf of the Daniels’ family and the Ogwashi-Uku community, accusing the senator of “disregarding local customs” and allegedly using his political influence to intimidate family members.
According to the letter, Ogwashi-Uku tradition permits a woman to end her marriage if her family returns the bride price to her husband. The family claimed that several attempts to refund the payment had been rejected by Senator Nwoko.
They warned that if he refuses again, the money will be publicly placed at Ikeleke Quarter a symbolic act under Ogwashi-Uku custom that formally ends a marriage.
“We have made repeated efforts to return the bride price in accordance with our custom, but Senator Nwoko has turned them down. If he continues to refuse, the money will be placed at Ikeleke Quarter, which signifies the end of the union,” the letter stated.
The open letter further condemned the reported arrest of Regina’s siblings, calling it an act of intimidation and abuse of power.
“We view the arrest of Regina’s family members as an oppressive act. The family demands their immediate release,” the statement added.
The community urged Senator Nwoko to honor local customs and allow the matter to be resolved peacefully, warning that any further attempt to use political influence to suppress the family would be met with public protest and traditional sanctions.
Regina Daniels, a prominent Nollywood actress and mother of two, married businessman and politician Ned Nwoko in 2019. The union attracted national attention due to their age difference and Nwoko’s polygamous lifestyle.
