Jay-Z Wins Paternity Case as Court Dismisses Lawsuit Filed by Alleged Son, Rymir Satterthwaite

A California judge has officially dismissed with prejudice a paternity lawsuit filed against hip-hop billionaire Jay-Z, marking the end of a long-running legal battle brought by Rymir Satterthwaite, who claims to be the rapper’s biological son.

According to Page Six, the ruling was delivered on Wednesday, granting Jay-Z’s legal team’s motion to dismiss the federal case that was filed earlier this year through Rymir’s guardian and paralegal, Lillie Coley.

The dismissal “with prejudice” means that Satterthwaite, 30, is permanently barred from refiling the same lawsuit or requesting a paternity test from the Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter.

Satterthwaite has long alleged that his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, had a relationship with Jay-Z in the early 1990s, which resulted in his birth. Jay-Z, however, has consistently denied being his father.

In July 2023, Rymir appeared to step back from his case, posting on Instagram that he had “withdrawn” the lawsuit, claiming there was “a lot going on behind closed doors.” Despite that, he insisted that his fight for “justice” was not over.

Attorneys for the Empire State of Mind rapper previously described the allegations as “harassment,” stating that multiple courts had already “rejected” Satterthwaite’s claims.

“The fabricated allegations and claims have been addressed and rejected in multiple other courts,” Jay-Z’s legal team said. “This is just the latest in a decades-long string of harassment.”

In earlier filings, Satterthwaite asserted that he wasn’t seeking back child support but wanted recognition and compensation for alleged emotional distress. He accused Carter of “fraud, misrepresentation, and manipulation of court procedures” to suppress his claims.

Satterthwaite, an aspiring rapper himself, previously filed a motion in May 2023 to compel Jay-Z to take a DNA test. At the time, he told Daily Mail, “This is not going to be over until justice is served. I won’t stop fighting until I win.”

Jay-Z, 55, shares three children  Blue Ivy, 13, and twins Rumi and Sir, 8  with his wife, global superstar Beyoncé.

The court’s latest ruling effectively closes the chapter on one of hip-hop’s most persistent paternity controversies, bringing an end to Rymir Satterthwaite’s legal pursuit after nearly a decade of filings across multiple jurisdictions.
