Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has once again stirred controversy after ordering a couple out of his concert in Denver, United States, on Wednesday night for allegedly falling asleep during his performance.
The incident occurred midway into his set when the Afrobeats superstar paused his show to call out a male fan whose girlfriend appeared to be sleeping in the front row.
“When I stand up here [on the stage] and see you over there with your girl sleeping in front of me, it pisses me the fk up. So, please, take her the fk home… Walahi, I’m not performing another song till you go home,” Burna Boy said angrily.
According to reports, the lady initially refused to leave, but after the crowd began chanting for them to exit, the couple eventually walked out. Burna Boy then resumed his performance to loud cheers from the audience.
The singer’s outburst has triggered mixed reactions on social media, with many fans criticising him for disrespecting ticket-paying concertgoers. Others, however, defended his actions, saying he expects full energy and engagement during his shows.
This is not the first time Burna Boy has made headlines for ejecting fans from his concerts. In previous incidents, the City Boys hitmaker once kicked out a male fan who ran on stage to hug him and another who refused to dance during his performance.
Burna Boy, who has earned global acclaim for his energetic performances and stage presence, continues to be one of Nigeria’s most talked-about Afrobeats artists both for his musical success and his fiery onstage temperament.
