Simi’s ‘Duduke’ Earns Gold Certification in New Zealand Her First International Music Award

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has achieved a remarkable international milestone as her hit song ‘Duduke’ has been certified Gold in New Zealand, after selling over 15,000 units.

This marks Simi’s first-ever foreign music certification, further establishing her as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated female artists on the global stage.

Released in 2020, ‘Duduke’ captures the rhythmic beat of Simi’s heart for her unborn child — a song that resonated with millions of fans across the world. In the official music video, the singer proudly showcased her baby bump, symbolizing love, motherhood, and hope.

Following the song’s release, Simi launched the viral #DudukeChallenge, which saw fans and celebrities alike creating heartwarming videos in tribute to the song.

In a past interview, Simi revealed that her daughter, Adejare, inspired the song  and some fans now affectionately call her “Duduke.”

“Some people call my daughter Duduke because she inspired the song. I don’t find it offensive, but I prefer they call her by her name,” Simi shared.

With this certification, ‘Duduke’ continues to stand out as one of the most emotionally powerful songs from Nigeria, and a defining record in Simi’s career. It also reinforces her position as a leading voice in the Afrobeats and Afropop music landscape.
