Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has revealed that he and late South African rapper AKA resolved their long-standing feud before the rapper’s death.
The two artistes fell out in 2019 after Burna Boy threatened to “deal” with AKA if they ever met. The conflict reportedly stemmed from a heated exchange following xenophobic tensions in South Africa, after AKA shared screenshots of alleged hate messages from Nigerian social media users during AFCON quarterfinal banter.
However, Burna Boy has now disclosed that they quietly settled their differences before AKA passed away.
In a posthumous birthday message shared on his Instagram page, Burna Boy expressed regret that the late rapper died before they could fully reconnect and work on planned collaborations.
He wrote:
“Happy birthday Supa Mega. We fell out over bullsht even though we squashed it over Twitter DMs nobody knew about. We never got the chance to really link up and do what we were supposed to do. I will regret that until I see you again. Until then, R.I.P Mega.”*
Burna Boy’s message has since sparked emotional reactions from fans across Africa, many expressing sadness over the missed opportunity for a collaboration between the two music stars.
Recall that AKA was shot dead outside a restaurant in Durban on February 10, 2023. The trial surrounding his murder is still ongoing.
