Nigerian actress, Etinosa Idemudia, has revealed that her colleague, Mercy Johnson, played a key role in helping her when her ex-husband allegedly threatened to kill her.
Etinosa made the disclosure during a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, where she opened up about the challenges she faced after speaking publicly about domestic abuse.
According to the actress, she began receiving death threats from her first husband after she accused him of abuse during an interview.
Narrating her experience, Etinosa explained that she had gone for an interview to promote a film titled Stormy Heart, but ended up sharing personal details about her past relationship.
She said, “At that time, I was very green and didn’t know how to avoid certain questions. They asked about love and relationships, and I said one relationship almost killed me. I mentioned it carelessly, not knowing it would become a big headline.”
She alleged that the media house focused on her marriage rather than the film, which exposed issues she had never publicly discussed before.
“My ex-husband called me and said I was ruining his career. He demanded that I come out and say I only spoke because I was a bitter ex. Then he started threatening me,” she said.
Etinosa added that the threats became so serious that she had to cry out on social media.
It was at that point, she said, that Mercy Johnson stepped in.
“I remember that Mercy Johnson reached out to me because she has a strong military background. She told me she would forward the case to the Chief of Naval Staff. Later, someone from Abuja contacted me and assured me they were handling the matter and that I would no longer be disturbed,” she said.
9javibez reports that Etinosa was first married to a military officer, Babatunde Solomon, and they divorced between 2017 and 2018. Her second marriage to Benin-based lawyer, Ighorosa, also ended in 2021 after the birth of their child.
