Tinie Tempah speaks on his Igbo roots, says creativity runs in the tribe

Award-winning British rapper and singer Tinie Tempah has revealed that he has Igbo roots, attributing his creativity and artistic talent to his ancestry.

The multi-platinum-selling artist made this disclosure in a video shared on his YouTube page on Monday, where he spoke about the influence of his heritage on his career.

According to Tinie Tempah, the Igbo ethnic group has produced several globally recognised creatives, including legendary writer Chinua Achebe and renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, both of whom have received international acclaim.

He expressed pride in his background and said he strongly believes that his talent is connected to his lineage.

Tinie Tempah said:
“I am from the Igbo tribe and I do believe that there’s something very intrinsically creative about Igbo people.

Growing up, I started to understand that a lot of Black authors from Nigeria, specifically the Igbo tribe, have won the Booker Prize. That’s a global book award. The likes of Chinua Achebe, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who was on Beyoncé’s album as well, have won that award.

So, I think my talent and creativity has something to do with my heritage and lineage and origin. And that’s beautiful.”
