Maverick singer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has criticised Nigerian Christian clerics, alleging that most of them are more interested in making profits than speaking truth to power.
The veteran entertainer made the remarks while featuring on a recent episode of the KAA Truths podcast, where he accused some pastors of maintaining a complicit silence amid Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges.
According to the self-styled Area Fada, many clerics have chosen to align with corrupt politicians instead of using their platforms to defend the masses.
Charly Boy further stated that although he lives in Nigeria, he does not share the same mindset as most Nigerians and would not fall for what he described as the sanctimonious antics of some religious leaders.
He said:
“All the pastors I know in Nigeria, 99 per cent of them are useless. It is just a business that they are running.
I may live in Nigeria, but Nigeria does not live in me. I don’t believe like you. I don’t want to think like you people. I’m not in the same class with you people. I come from a different space and time.”
