A family wants justice for the teen who drowned suspiciously at Merryhome Hotels in Aba.

 

After their son's untimely and unexplained death on June 25, 2025, at the Merryhome Hotels swimming pool on Chief Ubani Street, Off 7Up Road, Ogbor Hill, Aba, the family of 17-year-old Divine Odide is pursuing justice.

According to reports, on June 10, 2025, Divine drowned while swimming at the hotel. Speaking to reporters in Umuahia on Wednesday, his father, Mr. Orji Odide, charged that the hotel's administration was trying to hide the occurrence and avoid responsibility. He urged Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, to step in and guarantee a comprehensive inquiry.

After being first reported at the Glass Police Station in 7Up, Aba, the matter has been sent to Umuahia's State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for additional investigation. The family is requesting that the circumstances surrounding Divine's death be made transparent and is urging authorities to make sure that justice is done.

Police investigations are ongoing, and no official statement has been released by Merryhome Hotels at this time of reporting.
