According to authorities, one officer was hurt when a guy opened fire at a posh Santa Monica mall on Wednesday afternoon, June 25.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, the incident happened at 1 p.m. when an officer tried to arrest a suspect in a nearby gunshot that happened on Sunday, June 22, that injured two minors in a Waymo self-driving taxi.

"The suspect ambushed the officer and fired several rounds during the brief pursuit, striking him before he fled the Third Street Promenade area on foot," the police added.

According to authorities, a neighborhood resident who saw police-released images of the suspect led to the suspect's arrest around 4:20 p.m. in Palisades Park. The gun thought to have been used in the attack was found.

According to authorities, the wounded officer was sent to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was anticipated to fully recover. According to Lana Negrete, a member of the city council, the cop was hit in the hand.
