According to reports, Bassey Asuquo, a police inspector, committed suicide in Sarkin-Pawa, Niger State's Munya Local Government Area.
Asuquo committed suicide while on special duty on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at around 1:50 a.m.
The officer was a member of the 28 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Umuahia, Abia State, and was on a special mission in the area, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.

The cop had been reported to be acting oddly before the incident.
As a precaution, his Unit Commander reportedly directed that Inspector Asuquo's rifle be retrieved and placed in the armory of the Sarkin-Pawa Police Division.
Subsequent investigation, however, revealed that the deceased cop had gotten his hands on another officer's firearm while he was asleep.
According to reports, Asuquo snatched the revolver and killed himself by shooting himself in the head.

His remains were sent to the General Hospital in Sarkin-Pawa, and as part of an ongoing inquiry, Inspector Titus Bulus has been taken into custody for questioning.
