Amnesty International on the invasion of a mosque: More attacks result from the failure to apprehend and convict robbers

The early-morning assault on worshippers at a mosque in Na'alma village, Malumfashi Local Government Area, Katsina State, has been denounced by human rights organization Amnesty International.

The rights organization called the incident "horrible" and called on authorities to act seriously to safeguard citizens.

In a post on its X handle, Amnesty said that the attack took place during dawn prayers and that it is still unclear how many individuals were murdered.

Numerous residents who attempted to flee are said to be missing, and others who suffered serious injuries are being treated in hospitals.

According to the group, the attack occurred less than two months after gunmen in Unguwan Mantau, Malumfashi, massacred more than fifty people in another mosque attack.

Both the federal and state administrations have come under fire from Amnesty International for consistently making condemnatory statements without supporting them with concrete measures to guarantee justice and safety.

It issued a warning that the government's persistent inaction on the matter only serves to increase impunity and make rural people constantly fearful of more attacks.

It stated: "The Nigerian authorities' persistent inability to prosecute the real suspected criminals is encouraging impunity and has left rural communities continuously preparing for the next attack."
