(Read) In Enugu, a man was detained for reportedly ass@ulting his two daughters, ages two and five

The arrest of Mr. Ozioma Okonkwo for allegedly defaming his two biological daughters, ages two and five, respectively, has been verified by the Enugu State Government through the Office of the Honourable Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development.

On the evening of Saturday, October 25, 2025, Mr. Okonkwo, an Imo State native who lived in Enugu, was taken into custody after a worried and patriotic citizen reported him to the police.

The suspect is presently in police custody and will face charges in court after the investigations are finished, according to a statement released by the ministry on Sunday.

The two kids are currently receiving medical attention and psychosocial help at a Ministry-run shelter that has been approved by the government.

Under the guidance of the Ministry's social welfare and counseling staff, their mother, who has been severely traumatized by the incident, will begin therapy.

The statement said, "The Nigeria Police Force's professional and prompt response resulted in the suspect's timely arrest. The Enugu State Government commends them for this."

"The government assures the public that all offenders will be held accountable for their actions and reiterates its zero-tolerance policy on sexual and gender-based violence."

The Honourable Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development spoke out against the occurrence, calling it "a heart-wrenching and unacceptable crime against innocence" and strongly condemning the behavior.

Under the direction of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Enugu State Government is steadfast in its resolve to safeguard all children and see to it that those responsible for such heinous crimes are held accountable. The Honorable Commissioner said, "No child should ever have to go through such trauma, especially from those who are supposed to be providing care and protection."

The government also values the collaboration and attention to detail of the people who continue to support initiatives that defend women's and children's rights, safety, and dignity throughout the state.
