US President Trump says he will not run for a third term because "it's too bad

 

In recognition of the constitutional restrictions on US presidential tenure, U.S. President Donald Trump has ruled out discussions of a third term.



Even though he stated interest in staying in office, Trump remarked on Wednesday that "it's too bad" he is not permitted to seek for a third term due to constitutional realities.

"If you read it, it’s pretty clear," Trump said to reporters on Air Force One between South Korea and Japan. "I am not permitted to run. It's too awful.



The president's remarks were made the day after House Speaker Mike Johnson declared that Trump could not remain in the White House.



He told reporters in the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, "I don't see the path for that."



Johnson, the Republican leader who has made a career out of getting to know Trump, said he spoke with the president about the matter and believes Trump is aware of the circumstances.

"I have discussed the limitations of the Constitution with him," he stated.



The speaker said that a third presidential term is prohibited under the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution and that enacting a new amendment would require a laborious, ten-year process that would involve winning over states and congressional votes.



"However, I can assure you that we will not depress the accelerator," he stated. He'll have four excellent years ahead of him, and we're going to deliver for the American people.

Trump has brought up the possibility of attempting to hold onto power on several occasions.



Lawmakers and other visitors to the White House are given hats bearing the words "Trump 2028" as mementos, and Stephen Bannon, the former head of Trump's 2016 campaign who is now a podcaster, reignited the notion of a third Trump term.



"I would love to do it," Trump told reporters Monday while traveling to Japan on Air Force One.

He continued by saying that Vice President JD Vance, who met with senators at the Capitol on Tuesday, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was accompanying him, are excellent choices for his Republican Party in the upcoming presidential election.



Trump remarked, "I can only say that we have an amazing group of people."
