Ariyike Dimples Reveals Why She Stopped Attending Church for Three Years

Nigerian actress and media personality Ariyike Owolagba, popularly known as Ariyike Dimples, has opened up about the reason she stopped attending church for three years.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Open Up Podcast, the movie star revealed that she quit church after a church elder harshly criticized her outfit.

“They Said I Would Go to Hell for Wearing a Pencil Skirt” — Ariyike

Ariyiike recalled that an elderly woman in her community church confronted her for wearing a pencil skirt, insisting that she would “go to hell fire” because the outfit was allegedly indecent.

The actress said the experience left her feeling judged, embarrassed, and frustrated, prompting her to stop attending the church altogether.

“The reason I stopped going to church was because I wore a pencil skirt to church and an elderly woman said I will go to hell fire. I was shocked and felt wrongly judged, so I stopped going to church for three years.”

“The Church Wasn’t Welcoming to Young People”

She explained that the church was populated mostly by elderly members, noting that many young people had already left due to the strict and judgmental environment.

“Yes, you can have your doctrines, but there is a way you can simplify it for young people and take them in without judging them.”

The Incident Was Even Reported to Her Parents

Ariyiike added that the woman reported the matter to her father. This forced her to defend herself by taking a photo of the skirt and sending it to her mother to prove it wasn’t indecent.

Her father, who believed in the concept of “a community raising a child,” sided with the church’s concerns, which further convinced her to avoid the community church altogether.

Still a Practicing Christian

Despite the incident, Ariyike Dimples clarified that she remains a practicing Christian, although she no longer attends that particular church.
