Nigerian dancer and former Big Brother Naija star, Roseline Omokhoa Afije, popularly known as Liquorose, has revealed how her first attempt to join the reality show was crushed at the very last moment.
Speaking during an interview on VJ Adams’ podcast, Liquorose disclosed that she came extremely close to making it into the 2020 edition of BBNaija. She noted that she was fully dressed, made up, and already waiting backstage during the live opening show, expecting to be introduced as a housemate.
However, despite being prepared and ready to go on stage, she was never called.
She recalled:
“In 2020, I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show. I was dressed up and makeup done, but I was not called. That really hurt me.”
The Rejection Left Liquorose Depressed
The unexpected snub took a huge emotional toll on the dancer. Liquorose admitted that the incident left her depressed and discouraged, almost forcing her to abandon her dream of appearing on the show.
Reports at the time indicated that both Liquorose and fellow contestant Jaypaul were prevented from joining the 2020 season after testing positive for COVID-19, which led to their replacement.
How Liquorose Eventually Made It to BBNaija
Despite the painful setback, Liquorose eventually returned to audition the following year—although reluctantly.
She said she almost skipped the audition entirely but was persuaded by a friend:
“That experience was messing with me. So, the following year, I didn’t even want to audition but my friend convinced me to try. I just auditioned and forgot about it.”
Her breakthrough came unexpectedly:
“I just went to check my spam one day and discovered that I had been selected. It was crazy.”
Liquorose Finished as BBNaija Season 6 Runner-Up
Liquorose went on to become one of the most popular contestants of BBNaija Season 6 (Shine Ya Eye), eventually finishing as runner-up in 2021 after losing the grand prize to Whitemoney.
Her journey remains one of the most inspiring comeback stories in the show’s history.
