A popular Nigerian female wedding MC, known in Yoruba tradition as an Alaga, has cried out in distress after her driver allegedly absconded with a bag of U.S. dollars she had been saving for her son’s education abroad.
The MC, identified as Alaga Abisola Bamidele, narrated her heartbreaking ordeal in a viral video shared online. She revealed that she employed the driver, Ibrahim Opeyemi Gasali, in July 2025, but he betrayed her trust after learning her daily routine.
According to her, Ibrahim dropped her off at an event recently and then went back to her home, where he stole the bag of dollars she had been saving over time.
Abisola explained that she decided to keep her savings at home because of her previous frustrating experience with banks. When she was preparing to send her older child abroad for studies, she said the bank refused to release foreign currency from her domiciliary account, forcing her to buy dollars at black-market rates.
“That experience made me start saving dollars at home for my younger child’s education. I never thought this could happen,” she lamented tearfully.
The Alaga said the driver, who had grown familiar with her home and movements, took advantage of her absence to make away with the money and has since gone into hiding.
She added that even Ibrahim’s family members have denied knowing his whereabouts, further deepening her fears.
“Please, anyone who knows where Ibrahim Opeyemi Gasali is should help me. I worked hard for this money to secure my child’s future,” she pleaded.
The incident has sparked widespread sympathy online, with Nigerians calling for justice and urging authorities to help track down the suspect.
