Abubakar Yakubu, the newly elected President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has reportedly been arrested following his alleged involvement in a fatal car accident in Surulere, Lagos.
Yakubu recently won the AGN presidency in a tightly contested election, defeating actress Rita Daniels with 116 votes to 113, while three ballots were declared invalid. His emergence is considered historic, as he becomes the first Northern Nigerian to lead the Guild since its formal registration in 1998 — a role previously dominated by Southerners.
According to early reports, the incident in Surulere allegedly resulted in the death of a pedestrian. However, details surrounding the crash remain unclear, and investigations are said to be ongoing.
As of now, authorities have not released an official statement confirming Yakubu’s arrest or providing further information about the circumstances of the incident.
