Afrobeats superstar Davido has reportedly lost a $50,000 bet after backing Nigeria to defeat Morocco in their African Cup of Nations semi-final clash on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles were beaten 4–2 on penalties by the host nation, Morocco, after the encounter ended goalless in regulation time.
Hours before kickoff, Davido had taken to social media to share his bet slip, revealing that he placed a $50,000 wager on Nigeria to overcome the Atlas Lions. However, the outcome of the match saw the singer lose the stake following the Super Eagles’ penalty shootout defeat.
Meanwhile, popular Nigerian TikToker Peller also lamented his own betting loss after Nigeria’s elimination. The content creator disclosed that he lost $3,000 after betting on the Super Eagles to beat Morocco within 90 minutes.
Reacting during a livestream on Wednesday night, Peller expressed his frustration with a dose of sarcasm.
“Thank you Super Eagles for playing very well,” he said. “I have lost my $3,000 bet. You guys were playing well in previous games before I decided to place a bet and watch your match.
“Maybe if I stop watching your games, you will start playing well again,” he added.
