Senegalese-American singer Akon has opened up about his unforgettable experience working with late pop legend Michael Jackson, describing it as the proudest moment of his music career.
Speaking during a recent episode of the We Need To Talk podcast, the ‘Oh Africa’ hitmaker revealed that despite already being an international celebrity at the time, he still felt like “a child” standing beside Michael Jackson.
“My photo with Michael Jackson is my proudest photo. I was already a full-blown celebrity at that point, but I am a child compared to this man,” Akon said.
The singer explained that he grew up admiring the King of Pop and was thrilled to eventually collaborate with him.
Akon also spoke about his contribution to African music and the rise of Afrobeats, revealing that he once worked with Nigerian stars including P-Square and Wizkid.
He clarified that Wizkid was not directly signed to him but was connected through Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), where the Afrobeats superstar was formerly signed.
The 53-year-old singer further praised Nigerians for their intelligence and influence in the global music industry, noting that Afrobeats has achieved massive international success.
