When Buhari selected me as a minister, I, Adamu Adamu, had no knowledge of the education sector.

Before President Muhammadu Buhari nominated him as education minister in 2015, Mallam Adamu Adamu admitted that he lacked experience in the field.

At a Thursday farewell meeting with Ministry officials and the leaders of its parastatals, Adamu, the minister with the longest tenure, disclosed this.

He expressed his gratitude to Buhari for entrusting him with a role he was ill-equipped to handle. I had just rudimentary knowledge of education, he said.
When Buhari decided to make me Minister of Education, there is somebody here sitting and looking at me; he was the first person I called.

He said ‘what do you want to achieve?’ I said I want to achieve good things. And these are my ideas as a learner. After that meeting, professors of education were called and I told them what I wanted to achieve and let them put it in writing for me and they (the professors) did.
