Political leaders throughout Nigeria, particularly those in the Southwest, have been urged by Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, to put governance above party loyalty.
This was because it required them to cease vying for party identities and instead gauge their value based on their actual performance and influence on the public.
Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the group's leader, made this request on Wednesday during the two-day Southwest Stakeholders Dialogue in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

Fasoranti underlined that regional political leaders and ministers need to put aside their partisanship and make sure that federal funds and projects are distributed fairly.
He reminded the ministers that they represent the Southwest's legacy and goals at the national decision-making table, not only as party members.
"Our ministers must always remember that they represent a people whose goals need to be vehemently upheld; they are more than just cabinet officials. For the welfare of the impoverished masses, they ought to put governance ahead of party loyalty.

"Ensure that federal projects and policies benefit the Southwest equitably by working cooperatively with your governors, regardless of their party affiliations," he stated.
