CKay Makes History as First Nigerian Artist With a Solo Song to Hit 1 Billion Spotify Streams

 


Nigerian singer and producer CKay has set a new record by becoming the first Nigerian artist to achieve 1 billion Spotify streams with a solo song. His 2019 global hit, “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)”, has officially surpassed the 1-billion-stream mark on the platform.

The milestone also makes CKay the first solo male African artist to reach this historic benchmark.

Reacting to the achievement, an excited CKay wrote on his X handle:
“First solo Nigerian song to cross 1 billion streams. Grateful to God and the people involved in this historic success! Thank you for streaming.”

Other African Milestones on Spotify’s 1 Billion Club

Wizkid was the first African artist to join the Spotify 1 billion club in 2017 through his feature on Drake’s “One Dance,” which also holds the Guinness World Record as the first song ever to hit 1 billion streams on the platform.

Rema is the first African lead artist to surpass 1 billion streams with a song, thanks to the global success of the “Calm Down” remix featuring American pop star Selena Gomez.

Tyla, from South Africa, is the first African female artist to earn over 1 billion Spotify streams with her viral hit “Water.”
